Thousands of GCSE students from across England will get their grades on Thursday. The landmark in the education calendar comes after A-level results day descended into farce last week sparking a major government U-turn over grading.
On Tuesday, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson announced that A-level and GCSE students would be able to receive grades based solely on their teachers' estimates following public outrage over the moderation process.
Nearly 40% of A-level grades in England were downgraded after a controversial algorithm devised by exams regulator Ofqual was used, which took into account the school's past performance.
