France looks even closer to being taken off the UK's list of quarantine-free travel corridors after a record number of coronavirus cases post-lockdown.

New cases in the European country has leapt by more than 2,200 over a 24-hour period for a second day - putting the nation at levels not seen since late May.

The number of people in France infected with coronavirus on Friday rose by 2,288 on Friday, a new post-lockdown high, following increases of 1,604 on Thursday and 1,695 on Wednesday, the health ministry said in a statement.

It comes after Chancellor Rishi Sunak warned holidaymakers that the government would not hesitate in removing France from the travel list if the spike in coronavirus did not slow.
