Former Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson today got a new job – as a professor at a top management school. Prof Swinson, 40, won the party's leadership race last July and claimed she could become Prime Minister.
She hoped to scoop up pro-EU supporters, sweep to No10 and torpedo Brexit. However, when voters went to the polls at December's general election, her party's 21 MPs were cut to just 11 and she lost her East Dunbartonshire seat.
It was the second time she had been dumped by electors in four years, after losing the constituency in 2015 before regaining it in 2017.
