A Ukrainian family are hoping to live a more 'peaceful' life in Edinburgh after escaping the war in Ukraine. Alexander and Yana Savko moved to the capital with their three children for 'refuge' as the war in their home country continues to rage.The family are currently looking for somewhere to live through the 'Homes for Ukraine Programme'.
Dad Alexander hopes his children will be able to finally have a peaceful night sleep without the constant sound of air raids.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Alexander said: "Since the beginning of the war up until summer, the situation in our region was more or less calm.
There were periodic rocket and drone attacks and the frequent raids did not allow our children to study. "Throughout 2022, the children studied online with only a few classes being held in person, as not all schools had bomb shelters or were designed for a small number of children.
