Welfare chiefs have still not finished a study into food banks that was proposed more than two years ago, the Mirror understands.
Government officials proposed £217,000 of research looking at any “DWP policy that may have contributed to a rise in demand” for the emergency parcels.
But despite plans for a study being leaked in 2018 it has never been published. It is believed a literature review, rather than a full-blown study in the field, was commissioned but has still not been finished.
The Commons Work and Pensions Committee had urged ministers three months ago to publish the research “without delay”. MPs also called for a new research project on the financial impact of Universal Credit.
