The cost of Covid to Dumfries and Galloway Council this year is more than £10m.While the local authority is struggling to provide frontline services due to staff shortages, the heavy financial cost has also been revealed.Maintaining education services this year has cost an extra £5.1m while the bill for total additional costs across the board is £4.98m.This includes huge outlays such as additional social work support at £2m; around £500,000 for PPE, sanitisers and additional cleaning; redeployment of staff due to workforce shortages – £492,000 and £900,000 for reopening the region following lockdown.Despite the sky-high costs, the council has received sufficient additional funding from the Scottish Government to deal with the pandemic
