A motorist smashed into railings at an accident blackspot outside a landmark pub. The driver was unhurt following the smash outside the Black Friar pub in Salford on Monday night.

Pictures from the scene showed firefighters at the junction of Blackfriars Road and Trinity Way which has seen at least 20 crashes in the last five years, two of them fatal.

In the latest incident, two cars were involved and one ended up badly damaged against a railing outside the pub. The council has tweaked the sequencing of the traffic lights at the junction to prevent traffic turning off Trinity Way coming into conflict with cars coming from the opposite direction.
