Domestic abuse incidents rise for fifth year in a row in Scotland

Incidents of domestic abuse in Scotland have risen for a fifth year in a row after more than 65,000 cases were recorded across the country in 2020-21.

According to official statistics there were 65,251 domestic abuse incidents in the last year recorded by Police Scotland, which is a rise of four per cent on the previous 12 months.

Common assault accounted for 32 per cent of all crimes and offences committed. Throughout the year 40 per cent of the incidents recorded by police included at least one crime or offence.The second most frequent type of abuse was breach of the peace (23 per cent), followed by crimes against public justice (18 per cent) and vandalism (seven per cent).Scottish Government stats show that 80 per cent of all incidents
