Doctor Who bosses want Jodie Whittaker’s replacement to be actor of colour for first time in iconic role

BEEB bosses want an actor of colour to star in Doctor Who when Jodie Whittaker quits. Jodie, the first female Doctor, announced yesterday she would step down in 2022 after four years.

Now execs are keen to have an actor of colour take over for the first time in the show’s history. I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel, 33, is a front-runner to replace her and become the first non-white Doctor.

A TV insider said: “The team behind Doctor Who have always seen the sci-fi series as one of the most progressive shows on TV and this would only cement that. "It would be a momentous decision, particularly as in 2023 as the series celebrates its 60th anniversary.
