The BBC has confirmed that Jodie Whittaker will be leaving Doctor Who after becoming the first-ever female Time Lord. Jodie, 39, will be moving on from the iconic sci-fi series in autumn 2022 along with showrunner Chris Chibnall, who has been in charge of the TARDIS since filming began in 2017.
Before bowing out, the actress will star in a new six-part series later this year and will be part of three specials in 2022.
It was first reported in January that Jodie would be quitting her lead role and she now follows into the footsteps of William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi, who all left after three series of portraying the Doctor.
