— Mary, via telegraph.co.ukHmmm. Obviously, I sympathise. It must have been difficult over such a long hot summer to have a non-stop kiddies’ carnival going on in next door’s garden.
But what can I say? Children make noise when they’re playing. They have tantrums and fights. This is a fairly big, fairly young family – you honestly can’t expect them to let off steam in their own back garden without creating a certain amount of racket.
If your neighbours were being antisocial – as in playing loud music in the garden at all hours, or letting their kids chuck rubbish over the fence– I’d be writing a very different reply.
But Mary, this is just kids playing. They’re going to make noise. If you complain, however politely, what are the parents meant to do?
