'Danger to life' alert as Met Office issues TWELVE severe snow and wind New Year weather warnings

A 'danger to life' alert has been issued amid a severe snow and wind warning in place across the UK over the New Year period.

Forecasters at the Met Office have now issued twelve weather warnings for parts of the UK over the four day period, between December 30 and January 2.

In England and Northern Ireland, gusts of up to 70mph may lead to travel disruption on December 31, with delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport all likely, the forecaster has warned.

Very strong winds of up to 60mph are also forecast across the whole of England and Wales all day Wednesday (January 1) and into Thursday morning (January 2), with gusts of 75mph likely around coastal areas and hills, according to the Met Office.
