The Met Office has issued another snow and ice warning as freezing temperatures continue to grip the UK. The yellow warning comes into force at 3am on Thursday (January 9), lasting until midday that day.

Areas covered include Merseyside, west Lancashire, most of Cheshire, parts of Greater Manchester, parts of south west England and a large part of Wales.

The Met Office are urging people to take care on icy patches of pavements and roads and have warned it could lead to travel disruption.

The warning added: "Showers, mostly of rain and sleet at low levels and near coasts, but of snow inland and over higher ground, are expected to affect the area later Wednesday night and on Thursday morning. "With many surfaces below freezing, this will lead to some icy stretches on untreated surfaces, while a few cm of fresh snow could affect some areas, mainly places above about 100 metres".
