Emmerdale has been declared the winner of the coveted Best Soap gong at the British Soap Awards 2022.The huge award win comes after a year of hefty storylines, with serial killer Meena Jutla front and centre.Played by Paige Sandhu, the killer storyline kept audiences on the edge of their seats right up until Meena was sent to prison for life - but not before she held the courthouse hostage.
Unsurprisingly, Paige was also recognised at the awards ceremony in the Best Leading Performer category, while Emmerdale also scooped the Best Family gong for the Dingles.
Though Paige lost out in the Villain of the Year category, which went to Coronation Street ’s Corey Brent star Maximus Evans, Best Dramatic Performance also went to an Emmerdale star - Mark Charnock for his portrayal of Marlon Dingle’s stroke storyline.
Best Storyline went to Hollyoaks for Misbah’s rape, while EastEnders also rang in a win for Best On-Screen Partnership made up of Lacey Turner and Gillian Wright.
