The two fighters go a long way back and first met in the Octagon in 2014, when McGregor emerged victorious via first-round TKO.
Talks over a rematch began last year, with McGregor and Poirier discussing fighting for charity in a public Twitter exchange.
McGregor pledged to donate $500,000 (£365,000) to Poirier's Good Fight Foundation, which has a number of aims including building a gym where underprivileged youngsters can train combat sports.
