Chelsea fans reportedly held an anti-Black Lives Matter protest outside Stamford Bridge earlier this week. The fans were calling on the club to stop players ‘taking a knee’ before Premier League matches, something that has been commonplace since Project Restart got underway on June 17.
The death of George Floyd while in police custody in the USA last month has sparked worldwide action and players, staff, and officials have offered their support in the English top flight.Premier League teams have also worn Black Lives Matter message on players’ shirts, as well as taking a knee before each game is played.
Though widely backed, the movement has taken criticism in some quarters and a ‘White Lives Matter’ message was flown over the Etihad.
