fireplace ash in a cupboard has been sentenced to 300 hours unpaid work.Christopher O’Malley was in the dock at Dumbarton Sheriff Court this morning after previously pleading guilty in December.The 35-year-old admitted failing to take reasonable care for the health and safety of others as an employee under the Health and Safety at Work Act.Sheriff William Gallacher ordered him to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work within 12 months.

He will also be placed on supervision for 18 months.The Sheriff said he accepted that O'Malley did not believe his actions could have led to "the catastrophe that followed".He also accepted that O'Malley did not receive adequate training and that outdoor ash bins for storing fire remnants were full and had not.
