Busy south Manchester road closed after tree crashes onto the carriageway in high winds

A tree is blocking part of a busy south Manchester road after crashing onto the street during high winds. Alexandra Road South is currently closed after the large tree fell on Friday afternoon (May 22).

Images from the scene show that the tree - which fell from Alexandra Park - appears to have damaged part of a wall and some barriers.

The incident happened close to Wellington Road, outside St Bede's College, in Whalley Range. Nobody was harmed in the incident, council officials said.
