Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes (born 8 September 1994) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and the Portugal national team as a midfielder. Fernandes started his career at Serie B side Novara Calcio and soon featured for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A.

In 2017, he signed with Sporting CP where he established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. He was named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the latter season, he also helped Sporting win the Taça de Portugal. A senior international since 2017, Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Bruno Fernandes has taunted Tottenham after revealing he only ever wanted to join Manchester United. Spurs tried to sign the Fernandes last summer and held extensive talks with Sporting Lisbon about a £50m deal for the midfielder.

The deal collapsed when Spurs chairman Daniel Levy refused to meet the asking price and was also put off by the fees involved.

Less than six months later Fernandes completed a £67.7m move to United and has gone on to establish himself as a future superstar following an impressive start to life at Old Trafford.

Fernandes admits Spurs were one of several clubs chasing his signature 12 months ago - but insists his heart was set on joining United all along.
