Two young brothers died of heatstroke after climbing into a roasting hot car - which had reached 57C - and locking themselves inside.
The family of Daniel Garcia, three, and Ivan Salazar Jr., one, told police they had wrongly assumed the pair were playing in their rooms when the tragedy struck.
With the boys missing, a desperate search resulted in them being found unresponsive in the vehicle parked outside the family home in Montevallo, Alabama, on Saturday.
They are understood to have been inside the car for 90 minutes when they were found. Officers had attended the scene at around 3.30pm.
