A Brit whose giant yacht began to sink in rough Australian seas has been rescued following a 26-hour search. The 40-year-old man was sailing to Sydney from Tahiti when his 50-foot (15m) Beneteau yacht started taking on water about 95 nautical miles off the coast of Newcastle.
Police in New South Wales launched a rescue mission at around midnight on Friday and crews were scouring water for around 26 hours before they found the man. "In rough seas, the vessel and sole occupant, a 40-year-old United Kingdom national, were towed to Newcastle Harbour," New South Wales said in a statement.
Authorities have not yet said where in the UK the man is from. The man was placed in mandatory coronavirus quarantine in a hotel in Sydney after border
