Officers were called at around 3.50pm on Tuesday (18 May) after the school boy was struck by a car whilst he crossed Barlow Moor Road in Chorlton.
The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and is understood to have turned left on to High Lane, police said. The boy was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, where he remains in a critical condition.
No arrests have been made. GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing to any witnesses or drivers with dash cam footage to get in touch.
