It happened on Barlow Moor Road, in Chorlton, at around 4:30pm. Two vehicles were involved in a collision near Derwent Avenue, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
It is not known at this stage if anyone has been injured or how seriously. "Police were called just before 4:30pm to reports of a collision involving two vehicles on Barlow Moor Road, in Chorlton - emergency services are currently at the scene," a GMP spokeswoman said.
The road was closed northbound for over an hour with drivers being diverted down Princess Road, Nell Lane and Mauldeath Road.
