Bridgerton actress Simone Ashley has admitted that she gave herself a DIY tattoo after watching a YouTube video from a prison inmate.Simone, who has also starred in Netflix’s sex positive show Sex Education, told American talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel about her daring endeavour. After growing bored during lockdown she attempted the popular viral trends that circulated during 2020, including “making banana bread” and trying “tie-dye”.Her interest was piqued by the idea of giving herself a tattoo and she went looking for advice in some unconventional places. She told Kimmel: “I thought it would be a good idea to get my own tattoo pen with the needle.
I didn’t need an ID, I didn’t need anything, I just clicked a button.”As tattoo shops were closed during the pandemic, the 26-year-old turned to the internet to learn how to set up her personal studio.“It started getting a bit deep and I was like: “Oh, this guy’s using some really interesting stuff,” and then I looked at the username and it was called prisontattoo.com.”The actress said she was shocked after she realised that the inmate was making videos in prison and thought it was a “fab idea” to do it herself. The usual DIY style is known as stick and poke tattooing, where the tattooist uses needles and ink to make the markings.
