Residents spent a night in a local leisure centre as firefighters tackled a massive fire around their homes. A boy aged 12 has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
The blaze in Crewe, which broke out in the Frances Street area, led to the evacuation of residents who were not permitted to return home as the fire raged on throughout the night.
At the peak of the incident, 15 fire engines, including crews from Staffordshire and West Midlands services, were all engaged in combating the fierce fire.
Police established a cordon and closed several roads last night. A large group of residents were evacuated to Crewe Lifestyle Centre.
