Bomb squad swoops as Asda supermarket evacuated after 'suspicious package' found

A bomb disposal squad was called after a 'suspicious package' was found outside a Staffordshire supermarket. Asda in Stafford has been evacuated following the find earlier this evening, Birmingham Live reports.

People at the nearby Riverside Leisure Centre were also asked to leave and a 100m cordon has been put in place. Roads and footpaths surrounding the store have also been closed, including Lammascote, Riverway and Queensway by Kwik Fit.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman told the Mirror: "Officers are currently at Asda in Stafford following reports of a suspicious package being found outside the store. Were you evacuated from the Asda store or nearby Riverside Leisure Centre?
