Bomb squad rush to street after 'suspicious package' found and homes evacuated

Manchester Evening News around eight police cars swooped on the area and a man was led away from a property around 11am on Wednesday.

Police later confirmed a man aged 35 has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife.It is believed an explosive device is due to be detonated by specialist members of a bomb squad team, seen arriving on the scene around 4pm.Residents were told by police there will be a “controlled explosion" according to reports.

A resident said: "At 11am around six to eight police cars and vans turned up at the block of flats over the road. "Next thing a man was taken out of a property. "First it was police, then detectives and now bomb squad have arrived. "About an hour the whole street had to be evacuated.
