Theatres, museums, festivals and cultural centres will receive £8.6m as part of a major boost to the arts across Greater Manchester.

A total of 35 organisations will receive the money through the combined authority’s culture fund, which is aimed at supporting the ‘lifeblood’ of communities.

The city-region was described as having ‘the best of both worlds’ by its mayor Andy Burnham, with a ‘catalogue of internationally renowned arts’ and a ‘vibrant cultural scene’.

The culture and creative industries contribute £1.4bn to the local economy every year. Several leading cultural hotspots and events in Manchester will get a slice of the funding, such as HOME, Manchester International Festival (MIF) and Manchester Pride.
