Glasgow pub has been forced to change its name after many unimpressed punters branded it a racial slur. The Gypsy Taproom announced on Instagram last night of their plans to rebrand following feedback about its name choice.

The new pub was launched as a means of supporting independent brewers following the challenges of the Covid-19 lockdown. However, many pointed out the word ‘Gypsy’ is a racial slur and claimed the name was offensive and “extremely disappointing” to those from the city’s Roma community.Following the social media reaction, the pub, due to open in Barras Art and Design (BAaD) in Glasgow’s east end, announced it will officially be changing its name to ‘the Calton Taproom’.
