BBC apologises as news reader wishes viewers 'happy sex' in awkward subtitle gaffe

BBC ’s Look North programme was hit by an awkward subtitle blunder which read “happy sex.” Peter Levy wrapped up his Friday evening (April 8) news show on BBC Yorkshire and Lincolnshire by telling viewers he would “see them tomorrow night at half past six", however, in a transcription error, the subtitles read "tomorrow night at happy sex".The presenter took to Twitter to share a photo of the hilarious subtitle error to his 96.7k followers, captioning it: “You couldn’t make it up!”The BBC East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Facebook account later posted: "Apologies to anyone confused by a typo in our subtitles on Thursday night!"Fans were in hysterics over the mishap and some even began sharing stories of awkward error’s they’ve witnessed on other shows.One user said: “Some years ago, a weather presenter said, ‘Join us later for the full forecast’ but the subtitles had this as ‘the filth forecast.’They continued: “The assumption was that it was going to be quite an evening’s viewing post watershed.”A second recalled: “How about the time the F had fallen off the word Fog on the weather forecast, after a news break during World of Sport and when the program restarted, the presenter apologised by saying, I'm sorry for the F in Fog!”Other users took to Twitter to simply express how hilarious they found the awkward slip-up.One user who caught the error simply wrote: “I love subtitles” while another said: “Don’t you just love subtitles.”Another user said: “That was funny tonight” while several called the blunder “Brilliant.”Meanwhile someone else cheekily remarked: “You have this effect on people Peter!”Sam Fraser, a weather presenter for BBC South, also commented on the tweet to share a similar experience she had with a subtitle.
