Breeders, the comedy series about parenting that stars Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard, has been renewed for a fourth season on FX and UK’s Sky.

The news comes just one month before the premiere of Season 4, which debuts on the network July 31 with episodes available to stream the next day on Hulu. Starring Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard, the comedy about parenthood will pick up five years after the events of Season 3, which saw Freeman’s Paul and Haggard’s Ally on the brink of splitting up. According to a press release, the fourth and final season of “Breeders” will bring “the biggest parenting challenge that Paul and Ally have ever faced, as 18-year-old Luke (Oscar Kennedy) drops a bombshell at Christmas dinner that will change everyone’s lives forever. No longer in Luke’s shadow, 16-year-old Ava (Zoë Athena) experiences her own bombshell moment as she meets and immediately falls for the charismatic Holly (Jessie Williams). Paul and Ally continue to try, fail and try again as they face these latest parenting challenges, while also having to support the increasingly troubled Jim (Alun Armstrong) and Jackie (Joanna Bacon).”

While your social media may be awash with Instagram-perfect family pictures, many of us know the cold reality of parenting is far from easy, or glamorous.That’s perhaps why the dark comedy series Breeders has become such a phenomenon that it’s back for a third series. And by the sounds of it a fourth won’t be far behind… The Responder's Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard return as Paul and Ally Worsley, the beleaguered parents of Luke and his younger sister Ava (Eve Prenelle), who is 10.The story kicks off where it was left at the end of Season two, with the whole family feeling the fallout of fragile 13 year-old Luke (Alex Eastwood) punching his dad. Paul’s moved out and is staying at his mother-in-law Leah’s house, and he’s flirting with Leah’s next-door-neighbour, Gabby (Sally Phillips).

Season 2 ended with the Worsleys in disarray as Paul moved in with his parents after being slugged by his emotionally fragile son, 13-year-old Luke (Alex Eastwood), who said he could not live in the same house with Paul and his anger issues — which have also taken their toll on Ally and their 10-year-old daughter, Ava (Eve Prenelle). As the new season begins, Paul has moved from his parents place to his mother-in-law Leah’s (she’s on her honeymoon) — Ally describes she and Paul trying to have sex in his parents flat as “Shakespearian” — and he’s flirting with Leah’s next-door-neighbor, Gabby (Sally Phillips).Ally, meanwhile, is stressed beyond the breaking point; she’s not only trying to maintain an air of normalcy at home without Paul there, but her job is jeopardized after the company’s Berlin office went under.

The situation between Paul and Luke seems like a culmination of seeds that were planted in Season 1.It wasn’t necessarily the arc from the get-go. I think once we’d seen how Paul parented, particularly with Luke…we thought we would age the kids up six years and then it became inevitable that [Paul’s] parenting a teenage boy would not work out — particularly with a boy like Luke, who’s troubled and anxious.
