BBC airs controversial Fawlty Towers episode after editing out racist rant

The BBC has aired a controversial episode of Fawlty Towers after it was previously removed from UKTV. The episode, which was first shown in 1975, is titled The Germans and originally included racist slurs used by Major Gowen.

These slurs were removed in 2013 comedy had been given a content warning and was removed from BBC-owned UKTV before being reviewed as Black Lives Matter protests were at their height.

The controversial scene saw Major Gowen using offensive racial slurs when speaking about the West Indies cricket team, which included the use of the N-word.

Viewers were divided when the episode was aired again on Sunday evening on BBC One. Fawlty Towers was trending on Twitter as viewers shared their thoughts on the sitcom being shown
