An asteroid taller than Buckingham Palace skim pass Earth today, NASA has warned. The space rock is in the category of Apollo asteroids which means that its orbit will cross into Earth’s path.
Earth-crossing asteroids are one of the most dangerous types of rocks as they are at risk of colliding with the planet. NASA's Centre for Near-Earth Object Studies classes the object as a Near-Earth Object – anything passing within 120 million miles of Earth.
The asteroid is named 2020 GH2 and is expected to pass us today at a range of 359,000 kilometres (223,000 miles). NASA's Asteroid Watch programme says the object is 29m (95ft) long which makes it taller than Buckingham Palace in London.
