Arsenal were set to pip Manchester United to the bargain £1m signing of Dayot Upamecano five years ago, just months before the superstar defender ended up joining RB Salzburg.
The France U21 star was making a name for himself in Valenciennes' youth team at the time popped up on the radar of both English sides in the January transfer window in 2015.
A report in the Mirror claimed that Manchester United came close to getting Upamecano on transfer deadline day - 'but now could miss out to their great Premier League rivals.' Arsenal manager of the time Arsene Wenger was well versed in bargain hunting future stars from around the world but he couldn't get the deal done.
