Figures show where in the UK could be next to face local lockdown as an outbreak worse than Leicester emerges. Half a million people return to quarantine in Leicester which became the UK's worst affected area with 141.3 lab-confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
New data suggests Merthyr Tydfil could be next, with a larger outbreak of COVID-19 than Leicester per head. The Welsh town, with a population almost six times smaller than the London borough of Westminster, now has the highest rates of COVID-19 in the UK according to the lastest Public Health England figures.
Cases rocketed in the last week, with 179 infections per 100,000 people followed by 141 cases per 100,000 people in Leicester, which was similar to the previous week.
