Aldi is ditching its free fruit and vegetable bags in stores. Instead of giving out plastic carriers, it will start charging 25p for reusable ones.These draw-string options are made from recycled bottles – and you can use them more than once.This move is part of the supermarket’s pledge to remove single-use plastic bags from its 900 stores by 2021.The reusable items have already been trialled in 100 stores in the Midlands, where they’ve worked well.If you forget to bring your own bags into Aldi then you will be charged for a new one or forced to carry items in your hands instead.Aldi bosses hope the move will prevent 100 tonnes of plastic a year from going into landfill.The supermarket is aiming to halve the amount of plastic packaging used.
