Would-be Lanarkshire snooker stars get chance to play frame with former world champs

Two Lanarkshire snooker stars of the future got the chance to rub shoulders with three of the game’s greatest players.Brandon Langan, from Waterloo, and Wishaw’s Sam McKay attended the ‘Clash of the Titans’ event at Motherwell Concert Hall which featured seven-times world snooker champion Stephen Hendry taking on Steve Davis, a six time winner of snooker’s biggest prize.Dennis Taylor, who famously beat Davis in the 1985 ‘Black Ball’ final, was the referee for the clash between two of the game’s greats.And the boys managed to get on the baize themselves and showed the three legends their talents.The packed audience saw a doubles frame between Brandon and Stephen and Sam and Steve with Brandon potting the black to win the frame.Brandon’s proud mum Andrea said: “It was amazing to see them both out there.

Both Stephen and Steve really took the time with Brandon and Sam.“It was pretty surreal to watch Brandon out there especially as he hasn’t been playing for that long.“In the summer of 2021, Brandon went for the first time to his local snooker hall in Wishaw - The Masters."It was there he was introduced to Charles Sullivan a coach from the area.“It didn’t take Charles long to see Brandon’s potential and introduced him to Jim Donnelly, an ex professional player and current coach.“Brandon is a pupil at St Aidan’s High where former World Champion John Higgins also attended so hopefully that’s a good omen, we are very proud of his achievements.”Both Brandon and Sam are currently in Malta for the European Snooker Championship alongside Carluke teenager Steven Wardropper.All three are hoping to bring home some silverware having entered in the under-16, under-18 and under-21 categories.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@La
