Worrying coronavirus surge in Spain may force Brits to quarantine on holiday return

Spain is reportedly on the verge of being taken off the government's 'safe' travel list after a surge of coronavirus cases meaning thousands of Brits could face quarantine on their return.

Cases in the European country - a hotspot for holidaying Brits who have flocked there since restrictions were eased - have increased threefold since the end of lockdown.

On Monday, Spain recorded 4,581 new cases from the weekend period - a sharp rise in infections. Whitehall sources reportedly told The Sun the situation is being closely monitored and that a decision to potentially remove some or all of Spain from the list could be made in a matter of days.
