The New York Giants did something very unusual this past week: they cut their starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, in the middle of the season.
For some backstory: Daniel was the starter for the Giants for several seasons, which were plagued with injuries, coaching changes, and poor play.
On November 18, 2024, the Giants announced they were benching Daniel in favor of third string Tommy DeVito.
This effectively meant that Daniel would never play for the Giants again. He finished his career 24-44-1. However, most teams, after benching their starter, have kept them on the bench for the rest of the season in case of injury to the new quarterback.
