The Blues have had trouble from the spot in the last few years - started by Mahrez's late miss at Anfield in 2018 - and had missed three of eight this season.
Despite previous takers Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri being on the pitch, it was Mahrez who stepped up and smashed his effort confidently above Dortmund keeper Marwin Hitz.
