Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.
Prince Charles will not be attending Princess Diana's statue unveiling, ET has learned. A source tells ET that the 72-year-old Prince of Wales, who was married to Diana from 1981 to 1996, opted out of attending because he «doesn't want to be a distraction» at the event.
He is instead expected to be in Scotland during the ceremony. «He and Diana had a complicated relationship after their divorce, but they came to appreciate each other,» the source says.
Like with the statue unveiling, Charles did not attend events commemorating the 20th anniversary of Diana's death in 2017, and instead spent time at Balmoral, the royal family's home in Scotland, with his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.Diana, who shared Prince Harry and Prince.
