Why Manchester Arndale has been evacuated this morning

There was confusion at Manchester Arndale following an evacuation earlier today. Eyewitnesses reported people being told to leave the building this morning (January 15).

Shoppers and staff were uncertain over what was taking place. An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News: "The Arndale has just been evacuated.

No reason given." Concerns were also raised on social media this morning, with the evacuation coming as a surprise to those inside the building.

In a statement, Manchester Arndale confirmed a scheduled fire drill was taking place at the site. It's understood Greater Manchester Police had been informed of the drill in advance.
