Germaine Greer shocked many by agreeing to take part in CelebrityBig Brother in the first place. Three years before she entered the famous house, the feminist icon claimed watching the reality TV show was "as dignified as looking through the keyhole in your teenage child's bedroom door". "To do so occasionally would be shameful; to get hooked on it is downright depraved," added Germaine, now 81.

She also slammed the "voyeurs" that wee foolish enough to get dragged into the world of reality TV. But in January 2005, Germaine Greer decided to take on the might of Big Brother and joined the likes of racing pundit John McCririck, model Caprice and Happy Mondays star Bez in the house.
