Millions of people have been plunged into a third national lockdown. Boris Johnson announced the England-wide restrictions in a TV address on Monday night, which involves the closure of schools and people only being allowed to leave their home for specific reasons.

The Prime Minister said the rules "will become law in the early hours of Wednesday morning", but urged Brits to follow them immediately.

Mr Johnson's announcement came hours after Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced similar restrictions, which came into effect north of the border from midnight last night.
