Health secretary Matt Hancock described the situation in the south Asian country as 'harrowing', while warning Brits that it was 'a stark reminder that [the pandemic] isn’t over yet'.
India has now has reported more than 18.3 million Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began, the second-highest number in the world behind the United States, and has also set a global record for daily new cases for seven of the past eight days.
