His 15-year stint at Old Trafford began with a breakthrough in the 1998-99 season, during which United went on to win a historic treble.
The ex-England man almost repeated the achievement in 2008, when United won the Premier League and Champions League. However, Sir Alex Ferguson's side fell short in a 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Portsmouth in the quarter-finals - and that sways the balance for Brown.
