Wayne Rooney spoke to Manchester United a month after he left, urging them to sign Everton forward Idrissa Gueye.The Englishman moved to Old Trafford in 2004, becoming the club’s all-time top-scorer on 253 goals before heading back to Goodison Park in 2017.He spent the season at his boyhood club, helping them finish eighth in the Premier League.It saw him play alongside midfielder Idriss Gueye, who moved to PSG last summer.But Rooney has revealed how he tried to secure a move to United for the Senegalese international.
Writing in his Times column, Rooney said: “Everyone talks about his tackling and energy but what surprised me was his quality on the ball — he always looked to play it forward and to your feet.
