Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

When things are going bad on the pitch, then every single word you say off it is scrutinised. In the last week, James Tavernier,Ryan Kent and first team coach Michael Beale have all made comments that have resulted in criticism of the club's mentality.

Tavernier's programme notes ahead of Rangers' defeat to Hamilton appeared to be the tipping point, but Kent's wish to be underdog and Beale's suggestion Europe suits the club better have also been picked apart.

And now Steven Gerrard wants a bit of slack for his players after their recent comments. Gerrard clearly felt Tavernier's comments should not have appeared in the programme in the way they were presented but argued that players and managers cannot be expected to say the right things
