A Kilmarnock GP has won the prestigious Diabetes Project of the Year award.Wards Medical Practice Team was recognised at the Scottish Healthcare Awards recently.The team, led by GP Rohit Sabharwal, were the clear winner for the award after all of their amazing work to improve diabetes support for patients.The team offered patients in person and online group consultations, as well as a guidebook, recipe book, YouTube and email resources.Patients were said have felt more in control of their condition and had the tools they needed to continue to improve.Dr Rohit Sabharwal, one of the GPs in the practice, explained: “Lifestyle medicine has a vital role to play in helping us to improve the health of our local population.
And so, it was important for us to work with our patients to support them to feel more in control of their condition and to make healthy choices.
It was great to bring a community of patients together with this work, something we really lost during COVID-19, when everyone was so isolated.“I am so proud for our team to be presented with the Diabetes Project of the Year award – it is perhaps one of the most fulfilling pieces of work I’ve been involved in as a GP.
However, I can’t take all the credit. It was very much a team project.“Receptionists, secretaries, healthcare assistants – everyone had an important role to play.
