Virgil van Dijk responds to Jamie Carragher labelling him "arrogant"

Virgil van Dijk insists he was trying to do his best and wasn't being arrogant against Leeds, despite Jamie Carragher's claim to the contrary.

The Liverpool centre-back, who is normally a very safe pair of hands, was far from his best against newly promoted Leeds on Saturday.

Van Dijk was solely at fault for the away side's second in Liverpool's 4-3 win, after he lazily failed to clear a long ball into the area.

The loose ball was picked up by Leeds striker Patrick Bamford, who fired home, prompting an immediate response from Carragher providing commentary for Sky Sports. "That's just too arrogant," said the former Liverpool centre-back. "He tries to flick it around rather than just dealing with it.
